Record number of Organ Transplants announced
Hey guys,
According to the BBC this morning a record 3,706 organ transplants were carried out last year in the UK which is a 5% rise on the previous year. For the transplant community this is fantatstic news.
Another great snippet of news is that the BMA have once again called for the Organ Donor register to be changed from the current OPT IN system to that of a presumed consent. Presumed consent (or OPT OUT) means that you are assumed to be a willing donor unless you specifically choose to opt out.
Last year we also saw a massive increase in the amount of people joining the Organ Donor Register volunterily with the total at over 17 million people!
Unfortunately, Many people forget to tell their relatives of their wishes, which leads to refusal when the time comes. This leaves me to stress, if you join the organ donor register, please please tell your relatives.. someones life is counting on it!

There are still currently over 8000 people on the Transplant list and this regrettably is growing slowly too. 3 people a day die waiting for a transplant (my wife being one of them) as there just arent enough organs available.
